With celiac disease on vacation in Portugal

Without question. Without explanation. Just safe.

Going on vacation with celiac disease sounds relaxing, but in practice it often requires a lot of preparation. Checking ingredients, looking up restaurants, bringing snacks for the road and hoping that explaining in another language goes well.

At Quinta Viva a Vida, we understand this like no other. Bianca and our daughter Pip both have celiac disease. As a result, we know how important it is to stay somewhere where you don't have to constantly think about cross-contamination or hidden gluten.

This is why we deliberately chose a completely gluten-free place in northern Portugal. No exceptions, no shared kitchen and no doubt.

For those without celiac disease, eating gluten-free sometimes seems simple. But those who really depend on a strict gluten-free diet know how much stress travel can cause.

Even when restaurants indicate they have gluten-free options, the question often remains:

  • Is it really safe?
  • How do they prevent cross-contamination?
  • Do they understand what celiac disease means?

This can feel uncertain, especially abroad where the language is not familiar.

This is precisely why we wanted to create a place where guests could let go of those worries for a while.

What sometimes makes celiac disease difficult on vacation

Why Quinta Viva a Vida is completely gluten-free

The nature of our accommodation originated from our own family and not from a marketing idea around gluten-free eating.

Because celiac disease is part of our daily living, we set up Quinta Viva a Vida from the beginning as a place where gluten-free food is naturally safe.

Meaning:

  • no products with gluten in the kitchen
  • no shared toasters or countertops
  • no "may contain traces" situations
  • no separate rules for guests with celiac disease

Everything at our location is 100% gluten-free.

As a result, you don't have to stay alert all the time during your stay. And that very thing gives you peace of mind.

Gluten-free enjoyment of northern Portugal

Our place is located in Arcos de Valdevez, in the Minho region of northern Portugal. An environment full of nature, river beaches, hiking trails and quiet villages.

Many guests use Quinta Viva a Vida as a base to explore northern Portugal. Out and about during the day and then returning to a place where you can eat without worry.

That makes vacationing just a little more relaxing.

In the area, of course, we are also happy to help you with tips for gluten-free food, local restaurants and fine places to visit.

For families, couples and travelers with celiac disease

Whether you are traveling as a family, a couple or alone, it is nice not to have to constantly worry about food and safety while on vacation.

We do not believe in complicated concepts or luxury without substance. We do believe in clarity, reliability and a relaxed atmosphere.

A place where gluten-free is really safe, so you can explore northern Portugal with peace of mind.
