River beaches and swimming

In northern Portugal, rivers play a major role in everyday life. Especially in summer, the so-called praias fluviais are popular places to cool off and gather.

Around Arcos de Valdevez are several river beaches where you can swim, relax or have a quiet picnic in the middle of nature. Many places are small, uncluttered and have a relaxed atmosphere that suits this region well.

Especially on hot days, it's great to stop at the water's edge along the way, bring a book or just quietly enjoy the scenery.

Discover northern Portugal at your own pace

It is precisely the variety that makes northern Portugal such a fine region to explore. One day you walk through the nature of Peneda-Gerês, the next day you stroll through the streets of Porto or Braga. And on hot days, the coast or a quiet river beach is never far away.

The nice thing about this region is that nothing really has to be done. No busy schedule, no long travel times and places everywhere where you can spontaneously stop to enjoy the view, a terrace or nature.

And afterwards it's nice to come back to a quiet, completely gluten-free place where you don't have to think about food or planning. Just relax and experience northern Portugal at your own pace.
